Some foil balloons are created with self-sealing valves, but others are made without, usually depending on the size of the balloon! Balloons without vavles are referred to as air fill or mini shape balloons, and they require heat sealing after inflation. In this blog post we will provide a demonstration of how to seal valves, a tutorial on how to heat seal balloons into different shapes, and intructions for heat sealing with straighteners!

How to Heat Seal Mini Shapes

In this tutorial, the Grabo trainer will demonstrate how to seal mini shapes with a 200mm heat sealer!
 

  1. Turn on the heat sealer and choose a low setting. Wait for the sealer to heat up.
  2. Inflate the balloon with a hand pump, being sure to pinch the neck of the balloon around the tip of the pump.
  3. Pump until fully inflated.
  4. Insert the neck of the balloon between the lever of the heat sealer.
  5. Press down, holding the lever closed for 5 seconds.
  6. Release the lever.
  7. Remove the balloon.

 

 

 

How to Heat Seal Balloons into Different Shapes

In this video, the Amscan trainer will demonstrate methods of using a craft iron and household iron to turn plain decorating foils into different shapes!

 

How to Heat Seal Foil Balloons With Straighteners or Curling Irons

 

Don’t have a heat sealer? Not to worry! You can use hair straighteners or a curling iron for simple seals.
 

  1. Wrap the heat plates of the straighteners with tin foil to avoid damage.
  2. Turn the straighteners on at the lowest heat setting.
  3. Inflate the balloon with a hand pump.
  4.  Hold the balloon neck between the plates of the straighteners for five seconds, then remove.
  5. If the balloon does not seal the first time, gradually increase the heat.
